A One-Day Trip to Fully Enjoy Cherry Blossoms in Springtime Kamakura

9:30 – Start at Kamakura Station! Stroll Through the Cherry Blossom Tunnel of Dankazura

After leaving Kamakura Station, start your journey by walking along the cherry tree-lined path of Dankazura, where you can feel the arrival of spring.

Between 2014 and 2016, the trees were replanted as part of Dankazura’s renovation. In recent years, the cherry blossoms have flourished beautifully, allowing visitors to fully enjoy their splendor.

In the evening, the lanterns are lit, creating a mesmerizing illuminated sakura view. If you prefer a quieter experience, an early morning visit is recommended, as there are fewer people, allowing you to take in the beauty of the cherry blossoms at a leisurely pace.

◆ What is Dankazura?
Dankazura is the sacred approach leading from Kamakura Station to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, lined with cherry trees on both sides. In spring, it transforms into a breathtaking tunnel of cherry blossoms.
As you walk toward Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, you’ll notice the path gradually narrowing—this is a clever design using perspective to create a sense of depth and grandeur. Strolling along this historic walkway, you can feel the rich heritage and charm of Kamakura.

【Highlights】

・The striking contrast between the red torii gates and delicate cherry blossoms

【Access】

11:30 – Enjoy Stunning Cherry Blossoms & a Relaxing Hanami at Genjiyama Park

Bring a picnic sheet and a bento to enjoy a relaxing hanami with a hiking atmosphere. From Genjiyama Park, you can also take the Daibutsu Hiking Course to reach the Great Buddha of Kamakura.
