As the season of fresh greenery brightens the ancient city of Kamakura, the time for hydrangeas has arrived.
The colorful hydrangeas adorning stone paths and historic temples offer a soothing sight for many visitors.
This feature focuses on the blooming status of hydrangeas in Kamakura—especially in popular spots such as Hase, Sakanoshita, and Gokurakuji. Alongside the bloom updates, we’ll also provide information on the best viewing locations, how to get there, and recommended nearby cafes, so you can enjoy the changing season to its fullest.

🌸 Blooming Update (June １, 2025)
Jōju-in Temple (Gokurakuji Kiridoshi)
- Status: Budding, some in bloom
- Comment: During the fresh green season, the view from Jōju-in Temple is absolutely breathtaking. The collaboration of the blue sky, Yuigahama Beach, and hydrangeas is simply stunning.
🌸 Blooming Update (May 29, 2025)
Gokurakuji Station (Gokurakuji Area)
- Status: Budding
- Comment: The flowers are still in bud and have not yet begun to bloom.
Goryo Shrine (Sakanoshita Area)
- Status: Budding, Partially Blooming
- Comment: The hydrangeas have just started to show a hint of color.
Many are still in bud, but as they gradually come into full bloom, you can feel the early summer atmosphere settling in.
Jojuin Temple (Gokurakuji Kiridoshi Area)
- Status: Budding, Partially Blooming
- Comment: Although many hydrangeas were cut back a few years ago due to stairway renovations, this year they may once again offer a beautiful view.
